Life as a New Mom: Taking Time to Treat Yourself

Parks and Recreation's Tom and Donna have taught me well: You've got to treat yourself. Being a mother means you are always on-the-go, and running around like a borderline crazy person 24/7 can seriously take its toll on you. Trust me, fellow mommas: treat yo self.

On a good day, I get about an hour of "me" time. This precious rarity is almost always spent on bubble baths and Investigation Discovery. Sometimes I even sneak in some of my favorite guilt-free snacks like Weight Watchers ice cream or Greek Yogurt. Or just regular full-fat cookies because come on, cookies are delicious.

Anyway, I hardly ever pamper myself. Yesterday was amazing, because I got to treat myself to a makeover at Salon Savy and Fashion Boutique in Northport's Essex Square. I love, love, love going to Salon Savy. It's my favorite place to get my hair done; it's an upscale salon without the ridiculous prices. I get to look my best without breaking my budget, and everyone with an infant knows there ain't no budging my budget.

Yesterday, I got a color, cut, and style. Being in the salon was like a vacation for me. Having the time to rest and recharge is so vital when you're a mom, and trying out a sexy new hairstyle is a huge confidence booster to me. I went for a new shade of red with strawberry blond highlights, and when Tara turned me around to see myself in the mirror, I could have cried--I was so happy to see myself looking like five years younger.

I snapped this selfie when I got home last night. I felt like a new woman.

It's the simple things, ladies. Take time to treat yourself--whether it's an appointment at Salon Savy (which I can't recommend enough), a bubble bath, a marathon of true-crime TV specials, or a pint of Ben & Jerry's, you've got to treat yourself. You've earned it!
