More Storms? Another Threat of Severe Weather Headed for Central, West Alabama

We are watching weather trends in regards to a strong storm system that could move into our area on Tuesday afternoon. At the time of this report this incoming system as the potential to develop strong to severe thunderstorms between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning.

National Weather Service in Birmingham Highlights

James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist reminds us to “understand days like this are common in March in Alabama; no need to be anxious, simply be prepared and we will get through the event together just fine.”

Spann noted that the “synoptic-scale setup favors strong to severe thunderstorms, and the main window for now looks to be from about 3:00 p.m. Tuesday to 9:00 a.m. Wednesday. We will probably be able to narrow that down a bit as the event gets closer.”

We are providing this update so that you can be prepared in advance. Now is a great time when the weather is nice to make sure you have a safety action plan. Spann said that “all modes of severe thunderstorms will be possible, including large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes. Also, pressure gradient winds (not related to thunderstorms) will be strong with this system, with gusts to 40 mph possible. Rain amounts of 1-2” are likely, and some flooding issues could evolve as well.”
