Lana Del Rey’s ‘Ultraviolence’ Released Today [VIDEOS]
I feel like I have been waiting for an eternity for Lana Del Rey's second album, and now it's finally here. FINALLY. How do I feel about The Queen of Sadcore's sophomore offering? Let's chat.
I'm a HUGE Lana Del Rey fan. I love her voice. I love her songs; she is an extremely gifted songwriter and lyricist. Girl can SANG, too. Plus, she has impeccable style and basically looks perfect all the time. Her hair and makeup in the video for "National Anthem?" STUFF OF DREAMS, y'all.
Anyway, I'm going to stop idolizing her and get down to the real real: Ultraviolence. I know you may think this is impossible: but Ultraviolence is more profound and sad than Born to Die. The album is brooding, breathtaking, and beautiful. It manages to create an atmosphere of love and loss, life and luster--it's like watching the air of a hot summer afternoon pull itself up in the sky, gather into swirling slate-colored clouds and fall back down to Earth as a violent thunderstorm.
Lana's voice is lightning, pure electricity. Songs like "Old Money," "Shades of Cool," and "The Other Woman" shine with her soprano; while tracks like "West Coast," "Money Power Glory" and "Florida Kilos" find her returning to her signature breathy fusion of singing and rapping. Ultraviolence is intoxicating.
