Upgraded Weather Risk: Severe Thunderstorm Warnings in West Alabama
Earlier on Saturday, the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch that included parts of our coverage area for West Alabama.

The National Weather Service has now upgraded the risk in parts of the areas it included in the watch.
Fayette County, in addition to Walker and Marion County, is now under a severe thunderstorm warning until 1:30 p.m. this afternoon.
The risk of damage remains the same as the severe thunderstorm watch. Wind up to 70 miles per hour and quarter-sized hail are possible during the warning time frame for Fayette, Hamilton, and Winfield, Alabama.
The National Weather Service estimates 54,780 people are in the risk area.
“Storms this afternoon will be capable of producing strong, potentially damaging straight-line winds and hail,” said James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist. “Winds could be strong enough to bring down trees and power lines. Pay attention to severe thunderstorm warnings.”
The National Weather Service said on Saturday morning that all counties in our coverage area are at-risk areas for the Saturday afternoon storms.
UPDATE: More counties have been included in the latest severe weather update from the National Weather Service.
