The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® Eta Xi Omega Chapter is hosting an event to help Alabamians get informed, register to vote, and connect with voting rights resources. It will take place on Sunday, October 11, at Catch-A-Taste, 2816 University Blvd., Tuscaloosa, AL 35404. Community members are invited to stop by, ask questions, and get help navigating voter registration and restoration.

“Voter registration is an important priority for Eta Xi Omega because an informed and engaged community is an empowered community. We want to encourage eligible voters to register, become informed, and make their voices heard,” said Althenia Morrow Tate, president of Eta Xi Omega Chapter. “Civic engagement is an important part of strengthening our families and our community.”

What to Expect

Community members will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn about restoring your voting rights
  • Connect with resources designed to help eligible residents better understand their voting rights.

“In-person opportunities bring people together to learn, ask questions, share ideas, and build connections,” said Kennita Bryant, Chair of the Connection & Social Action Committee. “They help community members feel more informed, confident, and empowered to get involved.”

I learned the importance of voting at a young age. I remember dressing in my Sunday best and heading to the polls with my parents, seeing firsthand that voting was a responsibility and a way to have a voice in our community; that has stayed with me.

It’s cliché, but it’s true: your vote matters and your voice matters.

With Election Day approaching on Tuesday, November 3, now is the time to register to vote before the Monday, October 19 deadline. Click here for more details on deadlines and more from Alabama Votes.

“Your voice matters, and registering to vote is an important first step in making sure that voice is heard. I encourage anyone who is eligible but has not yet registered to take that step, become informed, and participate in the process,” said Althenia Morrow Tate, president of Eta Xi Omega Chapter.
