Plenty of questions on what exactly is on fire this afternoon.

The good news is, nothing is on fire that isn't supposed to be.

It's what officials call a "prescribed fire," and most of our region is under a prescribed fire notice.

However, the fire is not in Tuscaloosa County.

We are getting plenty of the fallout this afternoon.

Even our chief meteorologist here at Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa is asking questions about it.

These fires play a critical role in the health of forest ecosystems.

Applying prescribed fire on the land at the right place, at the right time, under proper conditions will benefit the land and the surrounding communities.

Ethan Barrett, a Fire Analyst with the Alabama Forestry Commission, told the Tuscaloosa Thread what is happening with all the smoke in and around town.

He confirmed that the U.S. Forest Service is conducting a prescribed burn in Hale County; however, the Alabama Forestry Commission is also battling a wildfire in Hale County.

So, no worries, if you see smoke, however, be careful if you are driving.
