Alabama Set to Take on Vanderbilt in Second Round of SEC Tournament
The No. 6 Alabama Crimson Tide is set to play the No. 11 Vanderbilt Commodores in the second round of the SEC Tournament on Thursday at 7 p.m.. Vanderbilt earned its way into the second round by defeating No. 14 Georgia 86-51 on Wednesday.
The Tide and Commodores met on February 22 for their only meeting in the 2021-22 season with Alabama emerging with a 74-72 road victory. Alabama was led by Jahvon Quinerly scoring 19 points and freshman JD Davison notching a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Vanderbilt's Scotty Pippen Jr. led all scorers in the regular season contest scoring 26 points, 14 of which came from the free throw line, and Liam Roberts chipped in with 16.
Alabama and Vanderbilt have split eight all-time meetings in the SEC Tournament at four games a piece. Alabama won the pair's most recent tournament matchup 82-75 in 2009.
Expect a competitive matchup on Thursday night as 18 of the last 19 games played between Alabama and Vanderbilt have been decided by 10 or fewer points with 11 of those contests being decided by five or less.
The winner of the contest is set to take on No. 3 Kentucky on Friday at 7 p.m. The Wildcats swept both the Tide and Commodores in two regular season games each.
Alabama and Vanderbilt's second round matchup can be seen on television on SECNetwork and can be heard on Tide 100.9 and 95.3 The Bear with coverage beginning at 6 p.m.
