Cold weather is bringing temporary changes to local recreation plans this weekend.

All PARA parks and outdoor restrooms will be closed on Saturday, January 31, 2026, due to projected temperatures, according to the press release from the Tuscaloosa County Park and Recreation Authority.

While outdoor spaces will be off limits for the day, PARA says its centers and indoor facilities will remain open at this time. Families with games on the calendar can breathe easy too. Tuscaloosa Basketball Association youth games are still scheduled to take place as planned, according to the press release.

Golfers will see a few adjustments as well. At Ol’ Colony Golf Complex, the outdoor course will be closed through Tuesday morning, and staff have already covered the greens to protect them from the cold weather. However, Iron and Ember Golf at Ol’ Colony, the indoor simulator facility, will continue operating during regular hours, giving players a warm option to keep their swing sharp.

PARA officials say they are closely monitoring the weather and will share any additional updates if conditions change, according to the press release. Updates will be posted on the PARA website and Facebook page.

Leaders say these temporary closures are all about keeping the community and staff safe during extreme temperatures. Residents planning to visit outdoor parks or facilities this weekend should adjust their plans and look toward indoor options instead.
