Tuscaloosa residents looking to close out the weekend with music and a chance to take the stage can attend a free live band karaoke event Sunday night.

AJ and the Midnight Soulz will provide the music for Live Band Karaoke on Sunday, Aug. 30, at the Shindig Family Entertainment Center, located at 5800 McFarland Blvd. E. in Tuscaloosa.

Unlike traditional karaoke, participants will have the opportunity to sing along with a live band. Organizers are encouraging guests to come ready to sing, dance and enjoy an evening of music and entertainment.

The event will run from 6 to 9 p.m., with doors opening at 5 p.m. Admission is free.

Sunday's event will also feature a “Decade/Year” theme. Attendees are encouraged to dress in clothing representing the year they were born or a decade of their choice.

The Shindig Family Entertainment Center's kitchen will be open during the event, and several drink specials will be available throughout the evening.

Organizers are promoting the event as a night of “great music, good vibes” and an opportunity for singers and music fans to enjoy a different take on karaoke.

The combination of a live backing band and audience participation gives guests a chance to step into the role of lead singer rather than simply singing along with a prerecorded track.

The event is open to the community, and no admission fee is required.
