High school sophomores in Tuscaloosa County are being invited to participate in a leadership program by the University of Alabama.

The program will give high schoolers a chance to get hands on experience in Tuscaloosa's economy, social and political landscape as well as learn history through mentorship with professionals and community leaders.

Formerly known as the Forerunners program, the Leaders to Legends program fosters character development, career pathways and community outreach.

Tuscaloosa students who are currently in 10th grade and will be in 11th grade next academic year are eligible to apply for the Leaders to Legends program. Applications will be accepted at leaderstolegends.ua.edu from Jan. 15 – Feb. 26.

The program, that is a collaboration between The University of Alabama Office of Teaching Innovation and Digital Education and The Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama, will accept 60 applicants who will participate in 6 once per month sessions.

Community leaders mentor the students as they participate in character-building activities and service projects within these session.

Interviews for the Leaders to Legends program will take place March 23 – April 16, with decision letters delivered in May. The session topics will be : Foundations of Leadership, Guided Growth, Serving with Purpose, Collaborative Leadership, Aspiration to Achievement, and Legacy of Leadership.
