Events Kick Off the Arts Council of Tuscaloosa’s New Season

A new season of arts and culture begins August 7 for the Arts Council of Tuscaloosa, featuring events at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center and the Historic Bama Theatre. Both events are free and open to the public.

Downtown Tuscaloosa will come alive on First Friday, August 7, with their Back to School Bash from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center located at 620 Greensboro Ave, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401.

According to the press release, the bash will connect “families with local organizations, nonprofits and businesses offering programs, classes and services for the upcoming school year. Vendors will provide information about educational resources, extracurricular activities and community programs.”

The celebration will feature live music, raffle giveaways, and an exclusive look at the Cultural Arts Center's upcoming workshops and classes.

Launch of the 2026-27 TuscArts OnStage Event Info

“Down the sidewalk, The Historic Bama Theatre will open its doors from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for a public open house celebrating the launch of the 2026-27 TuscArts OnStage season,” said the press release.

Guests will get a first look at the upcoming performing arts season during a 7 p.m. unveiling. The exclusive preview will include the lineup, complimentary popcorn, the purchase of concessions from the Bama Bar, and access to explore the historic theatre.

Throughout the evening, guests can explore several exhibits highlighting the history of the Bama Theatre, opportunities to support the arts, recognition of Arts Council sponsors, and the debut of the Arts Council’s new donor recognition program, Stars of the Arts Council.

“Visitors can also enter raffles for season tickets and Bama Theatre merchandise, take photos at a themed photo booth, enjoy a children's coloring station and join guided tours of the historic venue,” said the press release.
