West Alabama County-by-County NWS Winter Weather Alerts Guide
Anticipation is building for the arrival of winter weather in Alabama on Friday. The concern of snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain in our area has prompted various winter alerts from the National Weather Service in Birmingham.
This winter weather system will come from the Mid-South region and will impact many states, including “Kentucky, Tennessee, far northern parts of Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia into North Carolina and upstate South Carolina,” said The Weather Channel.

Residents under this warning can expect “heavy snow expected, mixing at times with sleet and freezing rain. Total snow and sleet accumulations between 1 and 3 inches and ice accumulations up to one-tenth of an inch,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.
The potential impacts are that “Roads, especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Travel could be very difficult,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham. “The hazardous conditions will impact the Friday morning commute. Any lingering moisture will likely refreeze Friday evening through early Saturday morning.”
