The City of Tuscaloosa will hold a municipal election for Mayor, City Council, and the Tuscaloosa City Schools Board of Education on March 4, 2025. The qualifying period for candidates is January 14 through January 28. Please see below for all qualifying information.

General Qualifying Information: 

  • All candidates must pay a qualifying fee ($200 for Mayor & Council; $50 for School Board)
  • Qualifying fees can be paid via check, money order or exact cash
  • Candidates must have a current (2024) Statement of Economic Interests on file with the Alabama Ethics Commission within 5 days of submitting qualifying form

Mayor and Council Requirements: 

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Qualified elector of the City
  • Resident of the City/district for at least 90 days prior to election day
  • Resident of the City/district during term of office

Board of Education Chair/Member Requirements:  

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Qualified elector of the City
  • No record of conviction for any crime involving moral turpitude
  • Resident of the city/district at least 90 days prior to election day
  • Resident of city/district during term of office
