The Tuscaloosa County Park and Recreation Authority has officially released a statement following a recent shooting at one of their properties.

Tuesday afternoon, the Tuscaloosa Thread reported on a shooting that is said to be a result of an altercation that began on the basketball court. A statement from VCU commander Jack Kennedy was released on Tuesday night:

"On 3.11.25, at approximately 4 p.m., TCSO, TPD, and VCU responded to a shooting at the Bobby Miller Activity Center," the statement read. "One male had been taken to DCH by private vehicle and is in serious condition. It was found a group was engaged in a large physical altercation when a shot was fired, striking the victim. The altercation began on the basketball court, and the shooting occurred inside the building near an exit door. The VCU is investigating."

PARA has recently released a statement following this shooting reinforcing their commitment to safety and addressing the incident.

"It is unfortunate that we must address incidents like these, but PARA remains steadfast in our commitment to safety," PARA said in a statement on their Facebook page.

"Our primary mission is to provide a safe, welcoming environment for all members, patrons, and the community. We continue to collaborate with law enforcement and city officials to increase security resources and preparedness across our facilities."

In the statement, PARA expressed their concerns about the recent gun violence and mentioned permanently banning anyone engaging in activities such as fighting, violence and more.
