Mayor Maddox Promotes Rush to Expanded Communications Role

Mayor Walt Maddox has appointed Dr. Richard Rush as the new leader of the City of Tuscaloosa’s Government Relations, External Affairs, and Crisis Communication efforts, effective July 1, 2025. Dr. Rush has been actively serving as the Executive Director of Strategic Communications for the City of Tuscaloosa since 2019, bringing nearly 20 years of experience from various sectors, including public service, the private sector, and academia.

In his expanded role, Dr. Rush will focus on enhancing relationships both within Tuscaloosa and across the state, aiming to support local priorities while contributing to broader policy discussions. Throughout his tenure, he has made significant strides in strengthening partnerships with businesses and community organizations, while also leading various committees and civic boards.

Expressing his gratitude for the appointment, Dr. Rush stated, “I’m honored to step into this new role and to continue to have the opportunity to serve the City of Tuscaloosa. Our city embodies vision, resilience, and opportunity, and I look forward to further strengthening the relationships and partnerships that propel our community forward.”
