Alabama Will No Longer Replace Food Stamp Benefits
Theft has cost the state nearly $16 million in about 18 months of handling fraud claims.

Most of those claims were between 2023 and the end of 2024. Now, the state feels they have a better solution to the fraud problem.
LOCK IT UP
Many new bank cards have options on them for locking the card. This is very important when it comes to the fraudulent use of a card.
According to the Alabama Department of Human Resources, all of those stolen funds were taken outside of the state of Alabama.
That is why the Alabama DHR is asking clients to make sure they use the new feature allowing cardholders to lock the card when it is not being used.
The state of Alabama believes this is the best way to combat the problem of theft and fraud of EBT cards and funds.
LOCK CARD EVERYWHERE
The Alabama DHR says that cardholders have options with the new system.
There is a standard "Lock Card" or a "Lock Card Everywhere". The DHR officials highly recommend using the "Everywhere" lock option due to its additional security features.
Additionally, cardholders can set up alerts to notify them about all account activity.
