After the Selection Show in early December, the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff bracket was met with controversy and discourse by media members and fans alike.

The national discourse followed Alabama's potential inclusion (or exclusion) compared to teams with fewer losses but weaker strength of schedule in comparison to the Crimson Tide.

However, many fans and media members felt that the format itself was flawed, criticizing the rule that grants the top four conference champions a first-round bye. Many thought it created unfair matchups for the top two seeds, Oregon and Georgia, who will play Ohio State and Notre Dame, respectively.

The CFP Committee may feel the same way. According to Brett McMurphy, there will be "in-depth discussions" on whether the 2025 college football playoff will guarantee the top four conference champions the top four seeds.

However, the top five conference champions will keep their auto bids.
