AUSTIN, Texas- No.18 Alabama women's basketball faced its first Southeastern Conference defeat of the season, falling 84-40 to the No.5 Texas Longhorns on Thursday at Moody Center. With this loss, the Crimson Tide's SEC record now stands at 2-1, while their overall season record is 15-2.

The Longhorns got things going fast, forcing four turnovers and launching an 8-0 run with 7:14 remaining in the first quarter. Although the Crimson Tide attempted to respond, the Longhorns maintained their aggressive approach, extending their lead to 14-3. Zaay Green finally got the Crimson Tide on the board with a 3-pointer after the Longhorns had initially stifled her efforts.

The Longhorns dominated the first quarter, finishing with a commanding 29-7 lead.

In the second quarter, the Crimson Tide sought to narrow the gap, but the Longhorns added 12 more points, pushing their halftime advantage to 25 points (41-16).

The pattern continued throughout the game, with the Crimson Tide struggling to keep pace as the Longhorns consistently pulled ahead. The Crimson Tide were outscored 26-9 in the third quarter, and the Longhorns went up 67-25.

The Crimson Tide managed to score just 15 points in the fourth quarter as they attempted to close the gap; however, the game concluded with a score of 84-40.

The Longhorns celebrated their biggest victory margin over an AP Top 25 opponent in 25 years.

“We tried to stay positive and continue to play the next play. On a night like tonight, things just didn't go our way. You have to continue to stay positive and we tried to do that. You just have to credit Texas. It was one of those nights, those career nights, where everything went their way," said coach Kristy Curry following the loss.

Game Notes:

  • Karly Weathers went 3-4 (.750), matching her season-high for field goal percentage in a single game
  • The Crimson Tide's defense restricted the Longhorns to a mere 25% shooting from beyond the arc in both halves, allowing the Longhorns to make only two three-pointers throughout the game (2-8)
  • The Crimson Tide struggled in the first half, hitting just 25% (7-27) from the field and managing only two three-pointers
  • Overall, the Crimson Tide finished with a shooting percentage of 27% from the floor (15-56), 17% from three-point range (4-23), and 50% from the free-throw line (4-8)
  • In contrast, the Longhorns excelled with a shooting percentage of 51% from the field (33-65), 25% from the 3-point territory (2-8), and 76% from the free-throw line (16-21)
  • Madison Booker led the Longhorns (16-1, 3-0 SEC) with 21 points and two assists, while Rori Harmon (10 points, 6 assists) and Taylor Jones (11 points, 12 rebounds) also contributed significantly, each scoring in double figures
  • Sarah Ashlee Barker missed her second consecutive game due to an unspecified lower leg injury during the Crimson Tide's first SEC game against the Florida Gators. She is still a day-to-day decision.

Looking ahead, the Crimson Tide will continue their road trip, preparing for a matchup against the Ole Miss Rebels in Oxford, Miss., at 3 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
