Alabama Strengthens Bullpen with Transfer Addition
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The offseason is officially underway in Tuscaloosa as Rob Vaughn & Co. have added their first transfer to the 2026 roster in former Texas State right-handed pitcher Matthew Tippie.
Tippie, a Texas native, pitched two seasons at JUCO Angelina College before making his way to San Marcos, Texas, to pitch for the Bobcats.
In his 2025 campaign with Texas State, Tippie tossed 46 innings across 26 appearances, all out of the bullpen. Tippie posted a 4.11 ERA with 73 strikeouts in 2025.
In a relief outing at Texas this season, Tippie pitched one inning, striking out two batters and allowing zero runs. Texas State went on to win the game 5-3.
This addition reinforces a bullpen that experienced an up-and-down 2025 campaign while losing its two best members: Carson Ozmer, who tallied a single-season program record 17 saves in 2025, and Braylon Myers.
Tippie has one season of collegiate eligibility remaining, marking his first season in Tuscaloosa as his final.
