The Alabama defense has come up clutch time and time again for the Crimson Tide this season. Against Georgia, Alabama's defense had a crucial fourth-down stop in the redzone, setting up the Tide's offense to drain the remaining clock and escape Athens with a victory. Just two weeks later, Alabama freshman cornerback Dijon Lee called the game against Missouri, with an interception of Missouri quarterback Beau Pribula on the Tigers' final drive.

The following week, Alabama cornerback Zabien Brown killed all Tennessee momentum at the end of the second half with a 99-yard pick-six on Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar. Against South Carolina, Linebacker Deontae Lawson forced a crucial fumble on South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers, setting the Crimson Tide's offense up in a game-winning scenario, which was capped by a 25-yard rushing touchdown from Germie Bernard.

The Alabama defense had made several clutch plays, bailing out a struggling offense or sealing victories after a game-winning score by the Crimson Tide.

"Man, we always talk about being elite in clutch situations. That's what we pride ourselves on," senior linebacker Deontae Lawson said during Monday's teleconference. "I mean, I'm sure everyone in the country practices those situations in practice. I just think we kind of have a different demeanor how we attack those situations in practice.

"Man, we also just got confidence in each other. I think that's the biggest thing, too, is just being confident in the person that you're next to, that they're going to do their job, so you can just do your job full speed. In those moments, we know someone is going to step up and make a big play. That's what we bank on."

The Tide's defense did it yet again on Saturday against Auburn, with Bray Hubbard hauling in an interception, and Hubbard again forcing a fumble, which Lawson jumped on and recovered at the end of the Iron Bowl.

Alabama will need clutch plays again from its defense on Saturday in the SEC Championship, when the Crimson Tide takes on the Georgia Bulldogs. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. CT.
